Mr. Gates, 78, of Fallentimber RD1 died at 5:57 p.m. Monday, March 29, 1993, at his residence, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Gates retired from Rushton Coal Mines, Philipsburg, in 1970. He was born Dec. 19, 1914, in Greensburg, the son of George I. and Fannie (Pershing) Gates. He married A. Margaret Mulhollem on Nov. 28, 1935, in Glasgow. Surviving are his wife, six children: Dean M. of Arbutus, Md., Betty A. Glass of Sinking Valley, James M. of Glasgow, Donald L. of Daytona, Fla., Linda L. Matish of Fallentimber RD and Susan C. Beal of DuBois; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister and brother: Talitha Byers in Maryland and George in Indiana. Mr. Gates was a member of United Mine Workers of America District 2. Mr. Gates was a 1932 graduate of Coalport-Irvona High School. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 .m. Wednesday at McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, and 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday at Fiske United Methodist Church.

GATES – Services for W. Francis Gates of Fallentimber RD1 will be held at 11 a.m Thursday at Fiske United Methodist Church, Fallentimber RD, by the Rev. Thomas C. McGill. Interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow. He was preceded in death by a grandson and a sister, Marie.
