Graveside service for Rachel Parks Chandler of Decatur will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Decatur City Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Walker officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing.
The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Chandler died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Limestone Health Facility. She was born in Lincoln County, Tenn., to Smith Ottmah Parks and Lillian Cashion Parks. She attended school in Lincoln County and Bryson College in Fayetteville. She taught school in Lincoln County until she moved to Decatur in 1950. Her husband, Elbert R. Chandler, was employed with the Veterans Affairs office. She operated a catering business in Decatur for many years.
Mrs. Chandler was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Decatur where she taught Sunday school, served on various committees and was awarded a lifetime membership in the Presbyterian Women of the United Presbyterian Church, USA.
Survivors include one sister, Elizabeth Parks Barnes of Fayetteville, Tenn.
Pallbearers will be Malcolm Prewitt, Bill Wyker, Charles Murphree, Ray Jones, Doug Moore and Roger McWhorter.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 701 Oak St. N.E., Decatur, AL 35601.
