HOMER D. COLE, 74, DIES AT HOME HERE
Homer D. Cole, former Columbus subdistrict state highway superintendent, died at 11 a.m. today at his home in Driftside Park Trailer court, north of Columbus.
Mr. Cole, 74 years old, worked as a road and bridge contractor. He was with Meshberger Stone corporation for several years prior to appointment to the highway post.
He served as highway superintendent from 1953 to 1957, an appointee of Republican Gov. George Craig.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Barkes and Inlow funeral home by Dr. William R. Laws, Jr. Burial will be at Garland Brook cemetery. Persons may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Florence N. Cole; six children, Rex E. Cole of 1936 Gilmore Street, William A. Cole of Tell City, Mrs. John Grauberger of Colorado, Mrs. Arnold Mulzer of Tell City, Mrs. Leon Hunt of New Haven and Mrs. Don Alexander of Fort Wayne; a brother, Justice E. Cole of Andrews route 3; 20 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mr. Cole was a member of the Masonic lodge at Bluffton. He was born Sept. 20, 1891, at Liberty Center to Charles and Frances A Bumgarner Cole. He and his wife, the former Mrs. Florence Spies, were married May 29, 1957.
A resident of Bartholomew county for 30 years, he had been in ill health a year and in serious condition six months.
