Nora and Fred made their home in Oklahoma City, where Nora was a home maker and Fred worked for the state of Oklahoma. I loved visiting in their home, with the fresh baked biscuits that Grandpa Fred wanted with every meal and the mini farm that was their backyard on 10th street in Oklahoma City; chickens, eggs and a vegetable garden.
When Fred retired they moved back to the Tishomingo area, making their home in Ravia, Oklahoma.
Their home in Ravia had a screened in front porch and this is where they chose to sleep. They stored watermelons under their bed and she continued to cook biscuits for Fred.
Nora was self educated, no formal education, but taught herself to read and write. She had an excellent head for money and always seemed to have some. She wasn't one for banks and kept the big money tied in a hanky and pinned to the bottom of her purse.
Nora and Fred enjoyed their retirement years and enjoyed visits from their family until his death. Nora loved her family and spent the next few years traveling between Oklahoma City with her daughter Lillian and Wylie, Texas with her son Roland and wife Lillian. That is until she and long time family friend Joe Martin married in 1986. Nora and Joe lived in his home north of Edmond, Oklahoma until health issues made it necessary for them to move into the house next door to Lillian in Oklahoma City. She remained there until the last few months of her life. She passed from this life in a skilled nursing facility in Oklahoma City.
