LIVED IN BEXAR COUNTY THREE SCORE YEARS
F Ackermann, German Pioneer, Succumbs to Advanced Age. Was Widely Known. Made Journey Over State in Ox Cart.
F Ackermann, one of the earlier German pioneers in Texas, died at his home on the Salado, four miles from San Antonio, about 10 o'clock last night at the age of 86 years. Death is attributed to his advanced years. He was one of the many early Germans who immigrated to America in the early forties and then drifted westward in a primitive oxcart.
Mr Ackermann is survived by his widow, three sons and three daughters. They are: Mrs Rosana Ackermann, S C, C W, C S Ackermann and Mrs F A Wald, Mrs Henry Scholz and Mrs P McIntosh, all widely known Bexar County residents.
The funeral of the decedent will be held at the family home and interment will take place in the Ackermann Cemetery at 11 o'clock Thursday morning. The decedent was a native of Sacegoda, Germany, where he was born March 22, 1822. He immigrated to this country in 1846, landing at Galveston in May of that year. After a brief stay in Galveston he journeyed across Texas in a big cart drawn by oxen settling in Comal County. He came to Bexar County in 1848 where he began farming.
In the year of the great gold rush to California he married Miss Rosana Farher.
