Susanna Ackermann Schulmeier, her husband Johann Valentin Schulmeier and their four oldest childern: Faub T., Leopold , Wilhelm, and Johanna departed from the port of Bremen,Germany on the 10th of May, 1844 aboard the Brig Weser arriving in the port of Galveston,Texas on the 8th of July,1844. They were under the colonization contract of the Fisher-Miller Company, but after arriving in Texas they were abandoned by the Fisher-Miller Co. They learned that they were transferred to the Adelsverein(Verein) led by Prince Solms. The family was transported by schooners to Indianola to begin their trip inland to New Braunfels. They arrived in New Braunfels on March 21,1845 and were amoung the founding families of the town. The oldest child T.Faub did not go with the family inland, he may have died during the long stay on the coast. Johann and his family received citizenship by virtue of the annexation of Texas in 1845. In 1848 Johann sold his holdings in New Braunfels and moved to Guadalupe County. By 1853 they returned to Comal County and tax rolls listed them as farming 300 acres near the Cibolo Creek. In 1857 Johann acquired 160 acres in Bexar County along Mud Creek, near the area which is now Jones Maltsberger Rd. and Claussen Rd and Thousand Oaks. In August of 1858 Johann died of Cholera and was buried on his farm, which is now an unmarked location.
Upon the death of Johann V. Schulmeier, Susanna married again to Heinrich Krause on Feb. 13, 1859 in Bexar County (Lic.#1607) The 1860 Comal County census indicates Susanna living with Heinrich her husband and her three youngest daughters: Friederike, Henrietta, amd Augusta. Records for Comal County show they lived on the Cibolo Creek farm until 1866. Records of deed transactions by her heirs indicate she died before 1869. The cause, place, and burial site are unknown.
