May Jenkins was born October 19, 1903, in Eureka, Geenwood County, Kansas, the daughter of Claude P. and Anna Sarah Malinda (Mattingly) Jenkins.

While a young maiden, May was engaged to marry but a few days before her wedding her finance killed himself by jumping off a cliff. May didn't marry until May 8, 1953, when she married her first cousin Arthur Calvin Mattingly in Riverside, Kern County, California. Arthur was born June 5, 1905, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas. May and Arthur did not have any children.

Arthur died May 17, 1993, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas. May died April 4, 1997, in Eureka, Greenwood County, Kansas.

May J. Mattingly, 93, of Eureka, died Friday, April 4, 1997, at Medicalodge of Eureka.
She was born October 19, 1903, at Eureka, the daughter of Claude P. and Anna Mattingly Jenkins.
Following her primary education, she received her teaching degree and later earned her masters degree in education. She then taught elementary school in southern California near San Diego until her retirement.

On May 8, 1953, she was united in marriage to Arthur Calvin Mattingly at Riverside, Calif. They resided in California until 1973, when they returned to Eureka to make their home.

A stepdaughter, Helen Louise Henry of Lafayette, Ind., a brother, D.C. "Cliff" Jenkins of Dominguez Hills, California, five step-grandchildren and fire step-great-grandchildren and two nephews, Bob Luth of Oxnard, CA and Jimmie Leroy Luth of Visalia, CA, survives her.

Her parents, her husband on May 17, 1993, a stepson, George Mattingly, and a sister preceded her in death.
Graveside services and interment were held April 7 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, with Pastor Mark Gruner of Christ Lutheran Church in Eureka Officiating.
Services arrangements were by Campbell-Kelley Funeral Home of Eureka.
