Anna Sarah Melinda Mattingly was born December 26, 1875, in Mason County, Kentucky, the Daughter of Richard and Anna Elysa (Valentine) Mattingly. Anna's mother died less than two months after she was born. Her father never remarried and moved to Illinois and finally Kansas when Anna was just a baby. He left Anna in the care of her maternal grandparents, Stephen and Caroline (Riggen) Valentine in Mason County, Kentucky, where she grew up.

Anna married Claude P. Jenkins on May 12, 1896, in Mason County, Kentucky. Claude waas born September 25, 1870, in Mason County, Kentucky, the son of George Daniel and Margaret Jane (Moody) Jenkins. Anna and Claude had the following known children:

1. Carl Goodlow Jenkins (1898-1967)
2. Margeurie (Jenkins) Luth (1901-1984)
3. May (Jenkins) Mattingly (1903-1997)
4. David Cliftom Jenkins (1906-2000)
5. Warren Maurice Jenkins (1909-1963)

Anna and Claude moved to Eureka, Kansas in the early 1900's. Anna and Claude separated at some point during their lives but never divorced.

Claude died April 23, 1948, in Los Angeles County, California. Anna died December 20, 1949 in Los Angeles, California. Her body was cremated and her ashes are buried in her brother John's grave in the Mattingly family plot at the Greenwood County Cemetery in Eureka, Kansas. There is no marker for Anna in the family plot.

Receives word of death of Mrs. Anna Jenkins
Mrs. J. W. Mattingly has received word that Mrs. Anna Jenkins of Los Angeles, California, formerly of Eureka, passed away December 20 at Los Angeles. Mrs. Jenkins was a sister of E. S Mattingly of Neal, and the late John W. Mattingly of Eureka, and Charlie Mattingly of Climax. She also is survived by two daughters, Marguerite Luth, Visalia, California, and Miss May Jenkins of Los Angeles who teaches at LeMesa, California and three sons, Carl, Clifton, and Maurice, all of Los Angeles. Her husband, Claude Jenkins died one year ago.
