Mrs Annie Ballard of this community passed away at the home of her son Ralph Ballard on Wednesday, July 31, 1946, after a final illness of only a few days. She had been failing in health, however, for a long period. Because of her age and necessary care, she has been temporarily living with a daughter, Mrs. Clara Cody, at Beatrice, but had returned ot her son's home on account of his illness.
Funeral Services were held at Crab Orchard Methodist church on Saturday, August 3, at 2:00pm, with Rev C.E. Austin, pastor of the Hopewell Methodist church, in charge. The services were largely attended by relatives and friends. Music was furnished by the Misses Phyllis and Twilla Mahoney of Tecumseh, being accompanied by Mrs. Ruby Mooney, also if Tecumseh. There songs were "The Old Rugged Cross", "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages" A. C. Soren, Roy Crook and John Pelham, Fred Smidt, Walter Jensen and Fay Bowers Served as casket bearers. Amoug those who came from a distance to attend were Frank Ballard and Laura Ballard of Beatrice, Mr and Mrs Wes Ballard and their daughter Mrs. Lloyd Whitehead of Vesta, and Mrs Ed Mahoney and Mrs. Rena Wolf of Tecumseh.
Annie Beatty was born on March 25, 1866, making her age at death 80 years, 4 months and 7 days. When a small girl she moved with her parents from Springfield, Ill., the place of her birth, to a farm west of Clarinda, Ia. She became the wife of C. W. Ballard, who passed away in 1917. The located on a farm south of Crab Orchard, where she had since resided, in later years the farm being the home of her son, Ralph Ballard.
Mrs. Ballard is survived by three children, Mrs. Clara Cody of Beatrice and Ralph and Elmer Ballard of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Clara V. Beatty of Tecumseh and Ethel Philmore of Omaha; three brothers, Ulysses Beatty of Lincoln, Wesley Beatty of San Francisco, Calif., and Wallace Beatty of Crab Orchard.
Mrs. Ballard joined the United Brethen church, of which she had been an active member for many years. She was a sincere person to all who knew her, and a faithful follower of her Master. She was a kind and loving mother, a dependable neighbor and friend, and an upright citizen.
