William Funk Answers Final Call
Funeral services for William D. Funk, Sr., who died Monday evening at the home of his son, William D. Funk Jr., in this city will be held in the Tabernacle this afternoon, commencing at 3 o'clock. Burial will be in the City Cemetery.
Mr. Funk was born November 7, 1844, in Quincy, Illinois and came with his parents to Utah when but three years of age, locating first in Salt Lake then coming a few years later in Manti where he made his home until thirty years ago he returned to Manti, where he has since resided.
Mr. Funk shared in all the hardship and vicissitudes of the early soldiers in Utah, including the Indian troubles, he being a veteran of the Black Hawk Wars. He was a successful farmer and gardner.
He was prominent in the public affairs of Manti and Sterling. He served as postmaster for Sterling for many years and also held other public positions of trust.
On November 7, 1863, he was married to Miss Ingri Sandberg of this city, in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him to the grave nine years ago. Their children surviving are William D. Funk of this city, Edward D. Funk of Preston, Nevada, Ezra Funk of of Fernley, Nevada and Foster R. Funk of Salina. He is survived by thirty-five grandchilren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
