Cecile was born in Cumberland County, Illinois on November 13, 1923 one of thirteen children born to John and Elizabeth (Cornwell) Stewart.
She was united in marriage to James William "Bill" Cooper on July 17, 1942 in Missouri.
Surviving family members include Bill, her loving and devoted husband and best friend of sixty-six years; two children, Frank Cooper and his wife Donna of St. Petersburg, Florida and Christine Kluepfel and her husband Joe of Madisonville, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Rodney Cooper and his wife Lori of Dallas, Texas and Gina Snyder and her husband Doug of Pueblo West, Colorado; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Cooper and Hallee Cooper of Dallas and Tanner Snyder and Jourdan Snyder of Pueblo West; a brother, Daniel Stewart of Mattoon; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents Cecile was preceded in death by eleven siblings.
Cecile was a member of the Old State Road Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Charleston. She was formerly a member of the Women's Bowling Association and served for many, many years as an election judge. She managed the Charleston Tastee Freeze on 18th Street and was also cashier at the A & P Store located on the Charleston Square.
Cecile enjoyed bowling, fishing, mushroom hunting, liked to garden and was an extremely good seamstress. Her marvelous sense of humor was accompanied by her infectious smile - it was always enjoyable to be in her company. Cecile had a strong desire to take care of others and her tender heart along with her caring and compassionate nature allowed her to do it so well. Her family was her pride and joy - she was a loving and supportive wife to Bill, a wonderful mother to Frank and Chris and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren experienced the love of a doting grandmother. The beauty of her inner nature radiated in her every day life and touched all who knew and loved her - she will be lovingly remembered by all.
