East Moline Soldier Dies In Viet Action

East Moline - Spec 4 Michael Arthur Johnson, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnson, 215 32nd Ave., East Moline, was killed in action Wednesday in Vietnam. He had been stationed 13 miles south of the demilitarized zone.

Arrangements are pending at the Esterdahl Mortuary. Spec. Johnson was born in East Moline. He attended United Township High School and was employed for two years at John Deere Plow Works, Moline, prior to entering the Army in January 1969. He had been in Vietnam since last fall. He served with Company A, 7th Engineers Battalion, 1st Infantry Brigade.

Survivors are the parents; a son, Michael in Ava, Missouri; four brothers, Jack of Rock Island, David and Edmond, both of East Moline, John, at the parental home; two sisters, Mrs. Kay Claeys of Coal Valley, and Mrs. Regina Edwards, at the parental home; and a grandmother, Mrs. Pearl Johnson, of Corning, Iowa.
