GALIEN - Helen Chapman, 85, of Galien, Michigan, and formerly of Three Oaks,
Michigan, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008, in Hamilton Communities, New Carlisle,
Indiana, surrounded by her family. Helen was born May 7, 1923, in Galien, to Lee and
Lydia (Fulton) Hinman. She graduated from Galien High School in 1940 and on
November 12, 1942, she married Arthur Chapman in South Bend, Indiana. Arthur
preceded her in death on June 4, 1977. Helen was employed by Gerber Babywear in
Three Oaks, retiring after many years. She was a member of the Randall Couchman
Post #204 American Legion Auxiliary, Three Oaks. Helen was an avid bowler, loved to
win at Euchre, and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs play baseball. Survivors include
her children, Richard Chapman of Portland, Oregon, Karen (Mike) Deeds of New
Buffalo, Michigan, and Kay (Bob) Becvar of Galien; grandchildren, Michael, Matthew,
Robert, Rick and Brenda; great-grandchildren, Angel, Alex and Mary; a brother, Beryl
(Myra) Hinman of Three Oaks; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her
husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Meryl Boltenhouse, and brothers,
Raymond, Glenn, Dean and Rex. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday,
August 8, in the Pobocik Funeral Home, Three Oaks, with Charles McKelvy as
celebrant. Interment will follow at Galien Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to
8:00 p.m. today in the funeral home. www.pobocik.com
