OBITUARY FOR:
Harold F. Schafer

HAROLD F. SCHAFER LA CROSSE, IN Harold F. Schafer, 84, of LaCrosse formerly of Crown Point, passed away Monday, August 4, 2008 at Porter Hospital. He was born December 13, 1923 in Crown Point the son of John and Mary (Scheidt) Schafer, graduated from Merrillville High School in 1943 and served with the U.S. Army. Harold was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in LaCrosse where he also sang in the choir and served on the Parish Council. He was a former member of Center Township Farm Bureau in Crown Point, National Farmers Organization of Lake County and a past president of the Lake County Extension Board. Harold had farmed in Crown Point for over 20 years and then 35 years in LaCrosse. On April 16, 1950 in Steger, IL, Harold married Ellen Anne Weidemann who survives along with their two sons: Myron (Joan) Schafer of LaCrosse and Vern (Sherrie) Schafer of LaCrosse; one brother, Joseph (Nancy) Schafer of Crown Point; and four grandchildren: Season and Spencer Schafer of LaCrosse, Matthew (Kristen) Schafer of Kouts and Staci Schafer (fianc,- Bill Bohling) of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by five sisters: Magdalene, Rita, Mildred, Dorothy and Sr. Petrona, CSA, and three brothers: Raymond, Edward and Willard. A funeral mass will be held Friday, August 8, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah with Fr. Jerry Schweitzer officiating. Burial to follow at St. Martin's Cemetery, LaCrosse. Visitation Thursday from 2:00-8:00 PM at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main Street with a prayer service at 2:00 PM.
