Clyde served in World War I and was stationed in France. After returning from the service, he and his wife were estranged and she divorced him in Michigan in 1921.
Clyde remarried to Ethel Mildred Wright on October 25, 1926, also in Wellsburg. They had four children: Robert "Bob" Clyde (1925-1999); June Lillian (1927-2003); Velma Jean (1929-1959); and Shirley Mae (1932-2009).
Clyde was a house painter by trade and spent much of his life in the West End area of Pittsburgh. He also was a fireman in his younger days.
Clyde's Cable family was in the Pittsburgh area (Ross Township) since 1790. They came from Virginia and the surname was once Cabell.
