Cora was born March 31, 1904 on a farm near St. Benedict, KS, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Engelken Stallbaumer. She grew up in this area and attended a country school and St. Mary's School at St. Benedict. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Baileyville and St. Anns Altar Society at the church. She always had time for her family and was interested in their projects as well as having several interests of her own to keep well occupied.
On April 14, 1926, she married Lawrence Hammes at St. Mary's Church, St. Benedict. They farmed southwest of Seneca until 1944, when they moved to their present farm three miles west of Seneca.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence of the home; six sons, Alvin Hammes, Shawnee Mission, KS; Gerald Hammes, Galen Hammes and Leo Hammes, Seneca; Kenneth Hammes, Vermillion,KS; Larry Hammes, West Richland, WA; five daughters, Mrs. Remi (Cleta Mae) Haverkamp, Centralia, KS; Mrs. Vern (Dorothy) Bergman, Topeka, KS; Mrs. Gene (Bernice) Heiman, Baileyville, KS; Mrs. Mark (Mary Rose) Feuerborn, Richland, KS; Mrs. Orville (Jeannette) Dick, Meriden, KS; six brothers, Alfred Stallbaumer, Cyril Stallbaumer, Adrian Stallbaumer, Emmett Stallbaumer, Raymond Stallbaumer, Seneca, KS; Hubert Stallbaumer, Atchison, KS; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Haug, Seneca; Mrs. Leona Nolte, Atchison, KS; Mrs. Frank (Rita) Broxterman, Baileyville, Ks; and 37 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Hammes, November 21, 1967, and her parents.
Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Baileyville, KS, with burial in the church cemetery.
