Mr. Alfred Perry Cunningham, one of the most prominent citizens of Trigg County, died on December 26, 1909,at his home six miles west of Cadiz of stomach trouble. He had been in declining health for some time, and his death was not a surprise to his family and friends.

Mr. Cunningham was born in Trigg County on the 23rd of June, 1849 and was the son of James "Tank" Cunningham and Sarah Wimberly Cunningham. In 1864, he was married to Miss Sarah Katherine "Kitty" Cunningham, his cousin and sister of the late Dr. W.C. Cunningham. To that union, four children are yet living--Mrs. John A. (Olive P.) Washer of Kirksey, Calloway County, and Mrs. Dillard (Metoka) Leneave, Mrs. George D. (Pocahontas) Cunningham, and Hodge G. Cunningham, all of Trigg County. Having lost his first wife, he was married a second time in 1894 to Mrs. Eva Jefferson, who also survives him. He is also survived by sisters: Mrs. Nannie Wadlington of Canton, Mrs. C. W. Washer of Kirksey, Mrs. Major Noel of Blue Spring, and Mrs. Maliscie Lancaster of this city, and Mrs. Nicholas Cunningham of Golden Pond. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

Perry Cunningham was one of the best citizens of this county; honest and clever in all his dealings, and no man knew him but to like him, and in his death the county, his family and friends have sustained a great loss.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. B.F. Hyde and burial was in the family graveyard. (relocated to Little River Cemetery with impoundment of Lake Barkley in 1960).
