Cliva Phipps
Funeral services for Mrs. Cliva Phipps, 82, of Monterey, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey. Burial was in Wilson Cemetery with Rev. Bud Hargis and Rev. Mike Kirby officiating.
Mrs. Phipps died Thursday, Feb. 13 at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center in Monterey. She was a homemaker and a member of Mineral Springs Freewill Baptist Church.
Born April 1, 1920, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Andy and Clora Mae (Vaughn) McCowan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Phipps; two sons, Charles Phipps and Donnie Phipps; three sisters, Evelyn Kirby, Myrtle Wilson, and Noble Melton; and five brothers, Hollie McCowan, Thurston McCowan, James McCowan, Paul Mc-Cowan, and Daniel McCowan. Also, Mrs. Phipps son Roy Vernon Phipps passed away the same day as she.
Survivors include four daughters, Elise Beatty of Muddy Pond, and Vida Clark, Diane Phillips, and Sharon Miller, all of Monterey; two brothers, Homer McCowan of Michigan and A.C. McCowan of Monterey; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.
