Jones' parents, Chauncey Graham Smith and Margaret Ann Kirkes, were blessed with 11 children: Elizabeth "Lizzie", Susan, Margaret Ann "Maggie", George C, Charity "Chellie", Wilhelmina "Willie", Chauncey Graham, Jones, Minerva Maye "Minnie", Effa Lee "Effie" (1889-1990) and William Alexander "Alec". On January 3, 1911, he married Lula Ann Sliger, with whom he had three children: Leo Franklin (1911-2006), Homer Graham (1913-1945) and William A. Sadly, Lula died only two days after William's birth/death; leaving Jones a widower with two small sons. Jones met Laura Edith at his sister Effie's house. They married on August 11, 1915, in Weatherford, Texas. Jones and Edith were married over 47 years and were blessed with four more children: Thelma (1917-1981), Jones Jr (1920-1986), Margaret Grace (1930-2021) and Laura Ellen (1933-2003).
