Laura Edith's parents, Lewis Washington Montgomery and Mary Elliot Frazier were blessed with 8 children: John Wesley, Mary Ellen "Mamie" (1883-1981), William Carter, Inez, Knox, Perniece Ann, Laura Edith and George Elmer "Jack." On 11 Apr 1915, in Weatherford, Texas, Edith married Jones Smith, a widower with 2 small sons, Leo Franklin and Homer Graham. They were blessed with 4 more children: Thelma (1917-1981), Jones, Jr (1920-1986), Margaret Grace (1930-2021) and Laura Ellen (1933-2003). After being widowed in 1953, she became more independent, learned to drive, opened a checking account, built a new home in town, and joined a senior citizens group. On May 5, 1967, in Hawaii, Laura married fellow senior citizen George V Gordon, to whom she was married until his death in 1977. She was a devout member of the Baptist church; reading her entire bible each year and annotating verses most significant to her. One of her greatest joys was traveling to visit her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren around the USA and in Ecuador.
