Annie (Pierce) Hamman and Adam H. Hamman were married in 1889 at Montague County, Texas. Per their daughter Grace Anne's 'Family History of Annie Pierce', Annie's father was "C. A. Pierce, a retired Confederate Captain" and her mother was Altha Elizabeth Addington, daughter of William Riley Addington and Martha Lucinda Smith.

"C. A. White, born 1871. Although a natural illegitimate child by Clem Pierce and Mrs. Altha White, Clem Pierce did fully adopt C. A. White on June 28, 1878. Altha White Consented to Adoption. Recorded Johnson County Adoptions Book R page 176"

Grace Anne also told of her parents marriage, "... one of 12 couples married on horseback on the Oklahoma side of the Red River bridge, because each wanted to be married in the home state, Annie in Texas and Adam in Oklahoma. To compromise and because the license was for Oklahoma, they were married on that side of the bridge." [The marriage license I have was actually issued in Montague County, Texas, so they were likely married on the Indian Territory (OK) side of Red River. Likely Red River Station, and no bridge there in 1889 but, obviously there was a bridge there when the story of her parents marriage was told to her.]

Annie and Adam had five children; Altha Louella, John Clem, Jessie Alamo, Thomas Stewart, and Grace Anne.

Annie had half-siblings of her mother's marriages to: Marion White; Henry Patrick McCune; and John James Stewart.

Update 5/19/2017: Annie's adoption record was located by the wife of Clem Pierce's great nephew, in the Texas land records Vol. R, PG 184. Thank you Michelle for locating the adoption paper and confirming the previously unknown given name of Mr. White as Marion!
