Margaret Laughlin was born about 10 March 1756 in Chester, Pennsylvania. She married Samuel Vance, Jr. on January 8, 1778 in Washington county, Virginia. They were reportedly the parents of 12 children: John, Samuel, Robert, Andrew, David, Harriet, Jane, Margaret, Elizabeth, James, Sarah, and an infant who died shortly after birth. She died November 6, 1814.

Margaret Laughlen [sic Laughlin] Vance was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, 10 March 1756, Moved to Holstein,[ Virginia] with her father in the fall of 1774, married Samuel Vance, the 8th of January 1778, by whom she had 12 children. Died the 6th of November, 1814.

Here Mrs. Vance reposes, who sustained so well each part in life by Heaven ordained, that she by word or act ne'er made a foe, and only by death occasioned woe. As wife and mother, relative and friend, words are too weak her conduct to commend.
