Ross Eugene Bates, 72, of Lamar died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a son of the late Robert Leo and Anna Mae Ross Bates, World War II Army Veteran, member of the Cabin Creek Babtist Church, and auto mechanic and a paint and body employee.

Survivors include is widow, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Miller Bates; three daughters and two-sons-in-law, Anita and Lawrence Mooney of Knoxville, LaJune and Davis Lampkin of Longview, Texas, and Betty Mize of Lamar; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Shirley Bates and Mike and Regina Bates, all of Lamar, and Roger and Jettie Bates of Dover; four sisters, Vera Beckman of North Little Rock, Jerlene Majorwitz of Lamar, and Mary Gottsponder and Billie Fern Perez, both of Dover; two brothers, Robert Bates and Dennis Bates, both of Dover; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 9 nephews and 13 neices.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Mehard officiating.
Burial was in Holman Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Danny Bates, Tracy Bates, Dennis Lee Bates, David Lampkin, Charlie Wellman, Junior Wellman, and Melvin Wiley.
Honorary ballbearers were Herb Tilley, Travis Miller, Ray Miller, Loy Dean Miller, and Don Stimpson.
