CYPHERT, Madeline H, Harris, Shannafelt, 92, Bradford and formerly of Clarion and Vandergrift, died Sunday, Aug. 10 2003, in Bradford Ecumenical Home after a lengthy illness. Born July 30, 1911, Snow Shoe, Centre County, she was the daughter of John Joseph and Minnie Mae (Hartzell) Cyphert. Mrs. Shanafelt was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clarion and a former member of Dames of Malta and Eastern Star of Vandergrift. She most recently was a homemaker and previously worked in food service, bookkeeping, and retail sales. Surviving are three sons, William Harris of Chambersburg, Gerald Shanafelt of Ashland, Ore., and Dennis Shanafelt of Curwensville: two daughters, Janet Shanafelt Barger of Des Moines, Iowa, and Carole Harris Pletcher of Bradford; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William J Harris, in 1949, and her second husband, Boyd Shanafelt, in 1994. She also was preceded in death by an infant son; three sisters; a brother; a son, John Harris; and a daughter, Marlene Harris Goldstrum. A graveside service was held Monday in Alcola Cemetery, Hawthorn. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 30 at the Grace Lutheran Church, Bradford. The family suggests memorials be made to a local Humane Society of animal shelter; the Alzheimer's Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, Northwestern Regional Office, 110 W. 10th St., Suite 212, Erie, 16901; or the benevolent fund of the Bradford Ecumenical Home, 100 St. Francis Drive, Bradford, 16701.
