Cyphert, John Joseph (84), of Hancock Avenue, Vandergrift, died suddenly at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning, May 15 from a heart attack suffered in his home. Mr. Cyphert was born in Corsica on January 18, 1876 the son of Samuel and Mary Crawford. He was married to Minnie Hartzell, who survives. In 1921 Mr. Cyphert moved to Vandergrift, where he operated a restaurant and later a grocery store, retiring in 1943. He was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Faimount City. Surviving besides his wife are four daughters; Mrs. J. Clyde (Ruth) Adams, Elyria, Ohio; Mrs. Esther Brown , at home; Mrs. Frank (Marguerite) Adams, Vandergrift; Mrs. Madeline Harris Shanafelt, Sligo; one son, Sherwood J Cyphert, Coraopolis; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Bertha Kinnard, Butler; Mrs. Bessie Hunter, California, Pa.; George Cyphert, Clarion and Robert Cyphert of Kittanning. Friends will be recieved in the Heckman Funeral Home at 247 Franklin Avenue, Vandergrift. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. C. H. Kichline, pastor of the United Church of Christ, Vandergrift, officiating. Viewing and interment services will be held in the Alcola Reformed cemetery in New Bethlehem at 3:00 p.m. ("The Clarion Democrat" 5/17/60, Clarion Co.,Pa.,USA (Personal note: Alcola Reformed cemetery noted above is actually Alcola Trinity cemetery)
