Virgie Lynn Harris was the seventh child and youngest daughter of Samuel Rogers Harris and Rosalie Melissa Hicks Harris. In the family picture, she is the little girl on the left behind her dad's shoulder. She went to Western Maryland College where she met her husband James Harford Pyle. He was a lawyer. After his law practice, he taught at the Polytechnic Institute in Baltimore city. After Virgie graduated from college in 1915, she married and they had three children. They were Melissa Hicks Pyle Mann Donaldson (1919-1995), James Harford Pyle, Jr (1921-2001), and Sarah Rogers Pyle Sener (b. 1927) For most of her life she lived alone or with her children in Pikesville.

She was a charter member of Grace Methodist Church, and taught in the Sunday School where she also played the piano. She was a member of the boards of the Wesley Home and of the Shut-In Society of Maryland.

An active gardener and an expert on herbs, she was a charter member of the Pikesville Garden Club and a flower show judge for the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland. She was also a charter member of the Woman's Club of Pikesville.

She was survived by eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
