Edward Lee Westmoreland, 76, retired foreman for Union Carbide Corporation and resident of old TVA Road, died Saturday, April 2, 2005 at St. Thomas Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Randy Kersey and Ricky Clay officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors at the graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born near Trenton, Tennessee in Gibson County, he was the son of the late Terry Franklin Westmoreland and Emily Byrd Westmoreland. After completing his high school education, he attended Columbia Business College for two years, earning a degree in accounting. At the outset of the Korean Conflict, he was in the first group from Maury County to be drafted and served in the U. S. Army in the Third Army, 63rd Chemical and Mortar Battalion with tours of duty in Germany and France. He was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ruby Lois Derryberry Westmoreland of Columbia; three daughters, Connie Burns, Sharon (Mike) Vaughn and Rita (David) Fann, all of Columbia; five grandchildren, Jonathan Edward Westmoreland, Emily Ruth Vaughn, Michael Woody Vaughn, Jr., Hayden Kendall Burns and John Wyatt Fann; four sisters, Eunice Stuard, Bertha Morton, Lucille Morton and Valerie Burns; a brother, James Westmoreland; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, T. C. Westmoreland, George Thomas Westmoreland, William E. Westmoreland and Robert Westmoreland.
