Mrs. Sarah Barnes Dies Thursday
271 Descendants Survive
Mrs. Sarah Stipp Barnes, 96, a resident of Benton county for nearly 70 years, died at her home at Bentonville at 8 o'clock Thursday morning, leaving a total of 271 direct descendants. Mrs. Barnes, who was the mother of Edgar Barnes, treasurer of the Farmers Mutual Insurance company of Rogers, lived in the Cave Springs community for many years, but had made her home at Bentonville for the last several years.
She was born near Springfield, Ill., October 14, 1852, the daughter of Henry Stipp and Nancy Cockrell Stipp. She moved to Neosho, Mo., with her parents, and was married to the late Richard A. Barnes on October 29, 1869. Mr. Barnes' death occurred January 16, 1917.
Mr. and Mrs. Barnes moved to Benton county in 1880, settling in the Cave Springs community. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Cave Springs Baptist church.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by five sons, Edgar Barnes of Rogers, M. W. Barnes, Bentonville, Albert Barnes, Cave Springs, Henry Barnes, Hillsboro, Tex., and Oscar Barnes, Fort Smith; three daughters, Mrs. Addie Rife, and Mrs. Effie Hartman, both of Bentonville, and Mrs. Minnie Vaughn of Vaughn; 46 grandchildren; 108 great grandchildren, 106 great great grandchildren, and three great great great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at the Burns Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, and burial will be in the Mt. Hebron cemetery.
