Marion Washington "Bud" Barnes, son of Richard Anderson Barnes and the former Sarah Savilla Stipp, was born in Franklin township Newton County, Missouri on the 22nd day of October 1871.

At the age of 20, Bud married Miss Sarah Jane Elizabeth Gaston on November 8th 1891. Sarah Jane, known as Jennie, was a daughter of George W. and Francis Gaston. Bud and Jennie had two daughters:
Ida Mae [Barnes] Smith (1892 - 1978)
Pearl [Barnes] Higginbotham (1894 -)

Bud and Jennie homesteaded a 40 acre farm in Benton County, on the Osage Creek, near his parents place. After is father died, Bud's mother lived with them and he acquired his father's land. Bud's family were members of Oakley Chapel, a Methodist church near by. Bud was a Superintendent for many years and sing in the choir. Bud and his daughters were quite musical, playing the fiddle, piano and singing.

The Barnes family were known for their longevity... living well into their 100's. Marion Washington "Bud" Barnes continued that tradition, departing this life at the age of 101 on February 8th 1973. He was laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Jennie, in Hart Cemetery just a short five mile drive from their old homestead.
