Albert Mansfield Barnes, son of Richard Anderson Barnes and the former Sarah Savilla Stipp, was born in Franklin township Newton County, Missouri on the 10th day of August 1874. Albert was the third child of eleven children.

On December 11th 1892, Albert married Martha Gaston, known as Mattie, a daughter of George W. and Francis Gaston. Albert and Mattie would make their home in Cave Springs, Arkansas and have one daughter, Cora Elizabeth; known by her family as Cora Belle. Albert, like his parents & siblings, was a farmer.
