Elizabeth moved with mother Phebe Holton Woods and four brothers, John, Jonas, Asa and Ira Woods from Madison Centre, Madison County, New York to Fulton County, Illinois in 1835/6 where they founded the town of Avon, Illinois. They also were instrumental in getting the Universalist Church established in Avon. In 1908 a large stained glass window was installed in the Church and dedicated to the four brothers who founded the town.
