Funeral of Mrs. John Snyder -
Carrie May Brees was born April 4, 1870, at Modena, Stark county, Illinois. She was the youngest daughter of Stephen and Julia Brees. About the year 1876 she came with her folks to La Cygne, Kas. After living five years at La Cygne the family moved back to Stark county, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood. Christmas day of 1892 she was married to John Snyder, at Bradford, Ill. They lived in Illinois until 1907, when they moved to South Dakota. In the spring of 1909 they came to Linn county, Kansas, and have resided here since. In the summer of 1916 Mrs. Snyder united with the Christian church of Prairie Home, later becoming a member of La Cygne Christian church. The husband and six children survive and are now living at the following places: Mrs. C. I. Burnett, Waukegan, Ill.; Mrs. Byron Atwood, Buffalo, N. Y.; Edna M. Snyder, Osawatomie, Kas.; Oscar E. Snyder, Grass Creek, Wyo.; Roy L. Snyder, Ottawa, Kas.; Linn and the father on the home farm, near Linville school in Paris township. Eleven grandchildren also survive. One sister, Mrs. Homer Longmire, lives at Bradford, Ill. Mrs. George Marmon, Mrs. B. W. Mendenhall, and Fred Stainbrook, sr., are cousins of the deceased. Mrs. Snyder had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill the past few weeks. She passed away quietly Tuesday evening, December 17, at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 13 days. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Wm. Melendy at the Christian church in La Cygne Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Joe Payne and Mrs. LaMaster(sic) sang "Face to Face" and "It Is Well With My Soul." Burial was at Oak Lawn cemetery. Pallbearers were John Wolfinger, Ira Wayne, Elbert Copple, Emmett Peterson, Myrl Nation, and Harold McCoy, all neighbors. Relatives coming to the funeral of Mrs. John Snyder from out of town were: Mrs. Mabel Burnett and son Norman, of Waukegan, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Snyder and Mildred, of Ottawa; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Snyder of Grass Creek, Wyo.; and Mrs. Marie Atwood of Buffalo, N. Y.
