John Snyder, 90, passed away Saturday, December 10, at the hospital in Ottawa where he was taken after he suffered a stroke at his home south of La Cygne. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the La Cygne Christian church with the Rev. Leonard Morrison officiating. Carl Danner sang, accompanied by Mrs. Danner. Bearers were Harold McCoy, Elbrt(sic) Copple, Myrl Nation, John Wolfinger, Emmett Peterson and Harley Johnson. Interment was in Oak Lawn cemetery. John Snyder, son of Jacob and Katrina Snyder, was born April 14, 1870. On Christmas day, 1892, he was united in marriage to Carrie May Brees at Bradford, Ill., and to this union six children were born. Throughout the years he had been a farmer -- first in Illinois and then in South Dakota before coming to Linn county in 1909. In 1916 he became a Christian at the Prairie Home school where church services also were held. Later he placed his membership with the La Cygne Christian church. Since the passing of Mrs. Snyder, he and a son, Linn, continued to make their home on Route 2, Pleasanton. He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Burnett, Lawrence, and Mrs. Marie Atwood, Penfield, New York; three sons, Roy Snyder, Pomona, Oscar Snyder, Lance Creek, Wyo., and Linn Snyder, Pleasanton; two sisters, Mrs. E. M. Wood and Mrs. Helen Coons and a brother, Jacob Snyder, all of Indiana; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
