Martin attended the Alban Township country school. On October 9, 1927 he was confirmed into the Christian faith at Bethlehem Lutheran at which time he became a communicant member there.
He married Jessie Fosher on May 17, 1944 in Ortonville, MN. The couple farmed all of their married life in rural Big Stone City. He was a voting member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served as an Elder for several terms.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He is survived by his wife Jessie; two sons, Michael and Steven; four daughters, Marva (Ken) Carr, Barbara (Robert) Swenson, Donna (Dennis) Lindholm, and Linda Schmidt; thirteen grandchildren; two brothers, Lester and Fred; and two sisters, Alma (Oscar) Angerhofer and Esther (Harold) Otter.
Martin was called to his eternal rest on Saturday, December 17, 1988 at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 21 days. Together with all the saints, he awaits the final day of resurrection.
