ORSON RICHARDS OF NAPLES SUCCUMBS AFTER ILLNESS OF NEARLY FOUR YEARS

NAPLES (Special)--Funeral services for Orson Richards, who passed away March 14 at the Vernal hospital after a long period of suffering were held at the Naples Ward Chapel Sunday March 15 with Bishop Byron Goodrich conducting. A double mixed quartet beautifully sang "Eternity." Invocation was offered by Mark Cook, "I Know that my Redeemer Lives," by the quartet.

Joseph Collier was the first speaker and offered consolation to the bereaved family in the assurance we have of life after death.

LaValle Manwaring gave incidents in the lives of his acquantances who have been called to that higher sphere to accomplish a far greater work than could be done here.

The quartet sang as a special number "Some Day."

President A. G. Goodrich spoke of the resurrection and encouraged all to live better lives so we can meet our loved ones who have gone before.

Bishop Byron Goodrich was the concluding speaker and spoke of his association with the deceased as a boy and of his scholastic ability and square dealing with his fellowmen. In behalf of the family he thanked all who had assisted in any way during the sickness and death of the deceased.

"Lead Me Gently Home Father," was the closing song by the quartet and the benediction was pronounced by Leslie Anderson. Interment was made in the Vernal Cemetery. His three brothers, Wallace and Glenn Merrell and Hallis Hullinger acted as pallbearers.

Orson Richards was the oldest of Mr. and Mrs. David L. Richards and was born at Taylorsville, Utah March 1, 18988. He came to Vernal with his parents in 1894 and lived at Naples until twelve years of age. Since that time he has worked with sheep and cattle and homesteaded a ranch on White River. His wife and only child preceded him in death.

He has been in ill health for the past four years and was taken to the Vernal hospital, December 14, 1930, suffering with heart disease and Chirosis of the liver.

Besides his parents, he is survived by the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. Aurella Meyers, Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Lyman Anderson, Salt Lake City; Lloyd Benjamin and Weldon and the Misses Stella Hannah, Lucille and Martha, all of Vernal.

-Vernal Express, March 19, 1931, transcribed by Rhonda Holton
