VETERAN MAIL CARRIER DIES AT NAPLES HOME

D. L. Richards, 80, a resident of Naples and retired rural mail carrier died Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Naples Chapel under the direction of the ward bishopric.

Mr. Richards is survived by three daughters, Hanna, Nellie and Stella and three sons, Ben, Lloyd and Weldon. his wife preceeded him in death nine months ago.

SERVICES HELD AT NAPLES FOR D. L. Richards

Pioneer Rural Mail Carrier, Teacher and Church Worker, Dies

Funeral services for D. L. Richards, 83, who died last Wednesday afternoon following a one-day illness of asthma, were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Naples Chapel. Prayer at the home was offered by Joe Collier

The opening number, "I Need Thee Every Hour" was sung by a mixed quartet including Velda Duvall, Maude, Orlo and Earl Goodrich. Bishop LaVell Manwaring offered the invocation. "Perfect Day" was sung by Darlene Evans. Bishop Jesse A. Haws of First Ward was the first speaker.

A grandson Richard Anderson played a piano solo. A. G. Goodrich was the next speaker. Mae Jorgensen and May Calder sang a duet "Softly and Tenderly. Lewis S. Gardiner was the concluding speaker. The closing selection was "Teach Me To Pray" by a trio composed of Velda and Doris Duvall and Maude Goodrich. Frank Merrill offered the benediction.

Pallbearers were Joseph Collier, Frank Merrill, J. N. Lybbert, Charles O. Weist, Albert M. Goodrich and Angus Merrell. Burial was at the Vernal Memorial Park with Mr. Weist dedicating the grave.

Mr. Richards a native of Lampeter, Wales, was born September 22, 1861. He came to America at the age of 18. He attended the LDS College and the University of Utah.

He made his home with Joseph Harker at Taylorsville and married a daughter, Susanna Harker in 1890 at Salt Lake. Before coming to Ashley Valley in the fall of 1894, he taught at Panquitch High School. After arriving here Mr. Richards was teacher in Maeser, Naples ad Jensen. He served as a rural mail carrier on Route Two for 34 years.

Active in an LDS church member Mr. Richards served as ward clerk in Naples for several years as Mutual teacher and Sunday School superintendent for 20 years. He had a record of not being absent or tardy for 16 years.

The father of 13 children, he is survived by the following sons and daughters, Stella, Hannah, Lloyd, Ben and Weldon of Vernal. Mrs. Donette Anderson of Salt Lake and Mrs. Martha Knight of Orem besides 24 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He has seven grandsons and three great-grandsons. He has seven grandsons in the armed forces five of whom are overseas.

Attending the services from distant points were Mr. ad Mrs. Lyman Anderson and family of Salt Lake; Mrs. Glen Knight and family of Orem and Mrs. L. J. Smith of Salt Lake.

David Lloyd Richards was the son of Hannah Lloyd and Benjamin Richards.

David Lloyd married Samira Susannah Harker.

To this union were born: Orson Richards, Stella Richards, Orilla Richards, Hannah Richards, Susannah Samira Richards, Benjamin Joseph Richards, Luciele Richards, David Lloyd Richards Jr., Donnette Richards, Max Richards and Climax Richards (twins), Martha Richards and Sterling Weldon Richards.
