Margaret was the daughter of Lyman Spaulding and Olive Malissa Beach. She married Levi Hake at Koshkonong, Jefferson, Wisconsin on March 16, 1875. Margaret's sister Dora Spitzer and a cousin, Irving Beach, acted as witnesses. The westward movement of the family can be traced by the births of their children. The first two, Bert and Alvie, were born in Jefferson, Wisconsin in 1876 and 1878. Eugene was born in Logan, Lincoln, Kansas in 1880 and the next two, Ernie and Emmagene, were born in Seattle, King, Washington in 1882 and 1883. The last two, Edgar and Ira, were born in Edison, Skagit, Washington in 1886 and 1893.

Everywhere they went, Levi had a Band and played for dances, parades and other events. Levi and Margaret came west with his brother David and family. A few years later another brother, William "Hat" Hake brought his family. Dave, Hat and their families settled on Vashon Island near Seattle while Margaret and Levi remained in Edison.

In Edison Levi had a small 'Stage Line' or, at least, that's how he advertised it. Rather than a Stage Coach, according to son Ernest, he had a two-seated "hack." He carried the US Mail between local towns and brought supplies to the many logging camps in the area.
