Daughter of Judith Virginia Royall and Asher Stone. Her brother was John Marshall Stone, a Civil War veteran and a governor to Mississippi, known for having served in that position longer than any other governor.

In the 1900 census for Chester County, TN, Rebecca reported that she had borne nine children, with only five living, but today the names of only eight are known: Emma Elizabeth Pierce-Nail (1853-1928), John Robert Wheatley (1854-1915), Thomas A. Wheatley (1857-?), Florence "Florrie or Frora" Gillespie-Franklin (1860-1929), Rebecca F. Wheatley (1863-1869), Cora L. Wheatley (1866-1869), Eddie R. Wheatley (1871-1932) and Neil B. Wheatley (1876-1877).
