LOCAL MAN IS VICTIM OF WRECK TODAY
A. G. Venable, 55, was killed and his companion William M. Baty, was slightly injured in a car-truck collision early this morning about 1 o'clock, at the intersection of Lancaster Road and Highway 77, near the underpass. Both men were Waxahachie residents.
Driver of the truck, a large tractor-trailer van belonging to the Brown Express Company, was not injured. He was identified by State Highway Patrolman J. E. Vaught as being Orville Laird of Dallas.
Mr. Baty was driving a 1950 Ford sedan at the time of the accident. He was taken to Waxahachie Sanitarium in a Saxon-Boze-Mitchell Funeral Home ambulance, where his injuries were described as minor cuts and bruises. He was released from the hospital shortly after noon today.
Highway Patrolman Vaught said this morning that the sedan was coming toward Waxahachie, had just left the intersection, and struck the side of the truck, between the tractor and the trailer. It was damaged severely and some damage was done to the van.
Funeral services for Mr. Venable, who was employed by the Chance-Vought Corporation at Grand Prairie, are pending at the Saxon-Boze-Mitchell Funeral Home. Time and place of the service are not decided pending the arrival of a son from California, and the funeral home advised this afternoon that the persons desiring information should call 223.
Mr. Venable was a resident of Ellis County for the past fifty-one years. He moved to Texas with his family as a child, first to the Bird Community and later to Howard. He became a resident of Waxahachie sixteen years ago, was a builder by trade, and a member of Ferris Heights Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mable Venable, Waxahachie, two sons, Billy Rhodes Venable, Lancaster, California, and Thomas Morris Venable, Waxahachie; two daughters, Miss Elaine Venable, Waxahachie, Mrs. Truman Longino, Waxahachie; two brothers, Walter Venable, Talco and O. C. Venable, Waxahachie; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Venable, Ennis, Mrs. Laverett Cates, Ennis, Mrs. Maude Bates, Denison, and Mrs. Beulah Morris, Dallas. Also, several nieces and nephews.
