Fred was born March 25, 1900, to John and Martha (Larson) Nordenstrom in Grass Lake Township, the seventh of eight children.

He attended schools in Minnesota and Washington. While working as a plasterer in Michigan, he met Ruth Wyona Hasbrook of Bessemer, Michigan. Ruth was the daughter of Richard and Lulu and was working as a typesetter for the Wakefield News which her father owned.

Ruth had won a scholarship to go to Walter Reed Hospital, Washington D.C. to be a nurse, but instead she married Fred on August 17, 1922.

They lived in the Brook Park-Henriette area, moving to a farm near Grasston in 1942.

Their son Richard was in a Merchant Marine accident in 1947 and died at the age of 20. In 1948 they moved to a farm in Stanchfield. Ruth passed away August 1, 1961, at the age of 58.

Fred was a plasterer and worked in the entire upper midwest area. He retired in 1965 enjoying his hobbies of horses and gardening. Their children are Fred Jr., Calla, Edythe, Leonard, and Lloyd.
