OBITUARY

Meridale, Nov. 23 - Tracy W. Strickland, one of the leading business men here, passed away about 5:15 Thursday in his store of angina pectoris. He was a kind having a sunny disposition and a kind word for all.

Mr. Strickland was born in Meridale March 17, 1879, a son of Joshua and Euphemia Strickland, and had lived here all his life. He conducted a general merchandise store for 35 years, was also town clerk 16 years, a member of the Presbyterian church, and belonged to the Elks lodge of Oneonta.

In 1904, he was united in marriage to Miss Flora Clark of Meredith, who survives him, with a son, Kenneth, and one niece, Mrs. Pauline Dwyer, of Albany.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 o'clock in the Presbyterian church with burial in the family plot in Pine Grove cemetery, Meridale. Rev. D. D. Wagner of Thompson Ridge, former pastor here, will officiate, assisted by Rev. John Flikkema.

Tracy W. Strickland [text missing] general store at Meridale [text missing] that community's best [text missing] dropped dead Thursday in his store as the result of an [text missing] angina pectoris for which he had been undergoing treatment for some time. His son, Kenneth, was in the store with him at the time of the fatal attack which occurred at 5:15 o'clock.

Mr. Strickland was 55 years of age having been born in the town of Meredith March 17, 1879, a son of Joshua and Euphemia (Mein) Strickland. He had conducted a general mercantile business at Meridale for the past 35 years, part of that time in partnership with his brother, the late Fred J. Strickland. Mr. Strickland was a member of the Meridale Presbyterian Church and the Oneonta lodge of Elks. He held the office of town clerk of Meredith for sixteen years.

Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock by his former pastor, Rev. D. D. Wager, of Thompson Ridge, assisted by the present pastor, Rev. John Flikkema. Burial was made in Pine Grove cemetery. The church was filled to capacity during the services which were attended by friends from all sections of the surrounding countryside. The Elks lodge conducted the committal service.

In 1904 Mr. Strickland was united in marriage with Miss Flora Clark of Meredith, who survives him together with the son above-mentioned and a niece, Mrs. Anthony Dwyer of Albany, who is the daughter of a deceased sister, Mrs. Merton Gregory of Bloomville.
