A 15-year-old South Haven boy was killed early this morning when the car he was driving went out of control on the Indiana Toll road, crossed the median, hit a bridge rail and flipped onto a road below, state police said.
Killed outright was Ricky Charles LaHayne, a freshman at Portage High school.
State police said the youth was driving at a high rate of speed about one mile west of the Howe-LaGrange toll plaza when he lost control.
Born Nov. 30, 1954 at Gary, he was a son of Robert and Joan (Coslet) Burton, who survive.
Surviving besides his parents are a brother, Scott; five sisters, Cindy, Judy, Shelly, Susan and Stacey; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Claus Buhmann, Porter, and Mrs. Myrtle Burton, Hobart; and great-grandmother, Mrs. Edith LaHayne, Chesterton.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carl Edmonds Funeral Home with the Rev. F. H. Willard, Porter United Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Chesterton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Monday.
