Richard C. LaHayne, age 76 of Porter, Ind., passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 in Valparaiso, Ind.

He was born April 24, 1936 in Porter, Ind., to John A. and Theodora (Schultz) LaHayne, both of whom preceded him in death.

Richard was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanne LaHayne, in 1982; his second wife, Mary LaHayne, in 2012; daughter Lisa Alliss and brother Raymond LaHayne.

He is survived by his daughter, Holly (Shawn) Gould of Valparaiso, Ind.; son-in-law, Jack Alliss of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and grandchildren, Erik Alliss and Zachary Gould, both of Valparaiso, Ind., Nathan Alliss of Wheaton, Ill., and Stefanie Alliss of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Richard was a lifelong area resident and was a member of Porter United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Richard worked as a Wireman for US Steel, retiring in 1996. Following retirement Richard worked at Hopkins Ace Hardware for many years. He was a member of the Friends of Porter, Chesterton Moose Lodge #1623 and American Legion Post 503. He served with the Porter Fire Department for 10 years. He thrashed at Chellberg Farm, now part of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, and farmed many other area farms.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind., with Rev. G. Thomas Jones officiating.

Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.

Richard was married in 1954 to JoAnn Coslet. They were later divorced. They had a son Ricky Charles LaHayne 11/30/1954 - 7/6/1970 who is buried in Chesterton Cemetery. JoAnn Coslet later married Robert Richard Burton.
