Raymond E. Southwell, owner of Portland, OR-based Specialty Polymers Inc., died Aug. 26, 2005. He was 78.
Born in Chappell, NE, on Sept, 1, 1926, Southwell spent the earliest part of his life in eastern Colorado with his parents and eight siblings. At 14, Southwell's family moved to Oregon's Willamette Valley, where he graduated from Molalla Union High School in 1944.
Following a tour in the Army Air Corps, Southwell attended Oregon State University, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering in 1950. He married Ava Aho that year and began work with Weyerhaeuser in Longview, WA.
