Kenneth L. Horm, 90, a resident of Clearview Lantern Suites in Champion, Ohio for the last four years, formerly a resident of DuBois, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Windsor House in Champion from an extended illness.

Ken (Bus) was born December 12, 1917 in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, to Leslie and Mae Horm.

He joined the US Army in 1941 and received his honorable discharge in 1946 after serving his country throughout the European theatre in France, Belgium, and Germany as an infantryman and later was assigned to the 769th MP Batallion. He earned the expert rifleman status, and numerous medals.

He married Lillian Smiley January 22, 1944 in DuBois, and celebrated 58 years of marriage before her passing. Together, they had one son, Kenneth E. Horm.

Ken retired from the United Mine Workers and Operating Engineers. He was a life time member of the Sandy Hose Company #1. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards, had a green thumb for both flower and vegetable gardening, and enjoyed spending time with family. His grandchildren enjoyed their summer vacations with ‘grandma' and ‘grandpa', and loved taking rides and hearing grandpa's stories … stories that have been reminisced many years over. Throughout his life, Ken exhibited an uncanny ability to recount in detail, and with humor, shared memories and experiences with all of those crossing his path. Very few could rival his passion for Penn State football, which cultivated a loyal following in his son and grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth (Linda Krug) Horm of Bristolville, Ohio, and two grandchildren, Kenneth (Jackie Coscia) Horm of Warren, Ohio, and Ann (Scot) Weeks of Gaithersburg, Maryland; one sister, Betty, and one brother, Bob, both living in Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; four brothers, George, Jake (Guy), Ralph, and Bill; and seven sisters, Myrtle, Helen, Nelly, Pauline, Florence, Dorothy, and Caroline.

The family wishes to thank all of his caregivers at Clearview Lantern Suites where Ken made his home the last four years, as well as those during his many hospital stays.

Visitation will be held Sunday, June 1, 2008 from 1 to 5 PM at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home at 211 South Main Street, DuBois, Pennsylvania.

A Ritual Service will be conducted by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 10:30 AM from the funeral home.

A funeral service, officiated by Orneil Heller, ordained minister, will take place Monday, June 2, 2008 at the funeral home at 11 AM. Burial will be at Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania where full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard.

Material contributions can be made in his honor to the Champion Fire Department, 139 Champion Street W, Warren, Ohio 44483.
