Final Tribute Paid Mrs. Deedie Cox
At ten o'clock Tuesday morning a large group of relatives and friends gathered in the Chapel of the Barry Funeral Home to pay respect to Mrs. Deedie Mayfield Cox, who died at one o'clock Monday morning at her home following an illness of three months. The services were conducted by the Rev. E Allen Bailey, pastor of the Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. L Allen Holley, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. The Methodist choir sang "In the Sweet By and By" and "Shall We Gather At the River". Miss Martha Dale Johnston was the accompanist. Burial was in the I O O F Cemetery with Barry in charge.
The pallbearers were J L Colbert, Walter King, C C Johnston, M E Welford, F T Harris and B M Huffman.
Mrs. Cox, who was 86, was the wife of the late Abner C Cox, who died in 1916. She was a life-long resident of Chickasaw County and had lived in the same house here for 55 years. She was greatly admired by a wide circle of friends.
For the past year she had not been able to attend services at the Methodist Church of which she was a member, but at the Mother's Day service last year she was paid special honor as the oldest mother present. She was active in Red Cross work and during World War II knitted more garments than any other person in the Okolona Chapter.
Mrs. Cox leaves four daughters, Mrs. A T Gregory, Mrs. D F Elliott, Mrs. Fred S Henson and Mrs. Lillian Russell; a sister, Mrs. Lee Torbin of Karnes City, Tex.; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
