Charles H. Balschweid, 82, P. O. Box 78, died early Saturday at a Salem nursing home. Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday at Providence Cemetery in Scio with the Rev. Harold Bride officiating. Aasum Funeral Home in Albany is in charge of arrangements.

He was born September 6, 1892 in Petersburg, Nebraska and moved to Scio area at age eight, where he was reared, received his education and had lived since.

He was a painter and wallpaper hanger, retiring in 1966. He married Eunice Brock April 28, 1924 in Vancouver, Washington. She preceded him in death in 1968. He later married Bernice Wooten, who died in 1973. He was a member of Scio Senior Citizens and Local 1277 of the painter's union of Eugene.

Survivors include two sons, Jon of Albany and Bill of Salem; two sisters, Oreta Coopey of Corvallis and Neva Merril of Grass Valley, California; three grandchildren.
