Ada Junella De Jong was born on February 2, 1916, near Pella, Iowa. She was the fifth of nine children that were born to Peter G. and Antonetta Dykstra De Jong. In 1921 the family moved to a farm north of Leighton, Iowa which ultimately became a Century Farm. Ada attended and graduated from the Black Oak No. 6 Country Grade School and Pella Community High School in Pella, Iowa. She lived on the farm home north of Leighton and became a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton. In May of 1953, she and her sisters moved to 410 East First Street in Pella .Ada was then employed at the Pella Overall Factory and retired from there after 38 years of employment. Ada became a charter member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella where she helped make quilts for missions and the homeless. She was also a member of the Hope Circle. Ada enjoyed sewing, doing crafts and traveling. On Monday afternoon, March 31, 2008, she passed away at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of 92 years,1 month and 23 days. Those who will cherish her memory are three sisters: Grace De Hamer of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Charlotte De Jong and Esther Vande Lune both of Pella; her brother, Gilbert De Jong of Leighton, Iowa; 15 nieces and nephews, 27 great-nieces and great-nephews and 23 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Ada was preceded in death by her parents: Peter and Antonetta De Jong; four sisters: Pearl Van Steenis, Clara De Jong, Nina De Jong and Mabelle Van Arkel; four brothers-in-law: Merle Van Steenis, Peter De Hamer, Leonard Vande Lune and Russell Van Arkel; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Gilbert) De Jong; and a nephew, Ronald De Hamer.
