Bernard Orville "Bud" Byland, Machinist Mate Second Class, United States Navy, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Don C. Byland, 544 North Eighteenth Street, passed away in the navy hospital at Astoria Wednesday afternoon. He had been in ill health for the past few months. Bud was born at Shedd, April 4, 1916. He had received his education in the Corvallis schools and had been an active member of the Corvallis fire department before entering service in 1943. Bud was stationed for more than a year at Pearl Harbor. He received his boot training in Virginia. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don C. Byland, Corvallis; three sisters, Miss Betty Byland and Mrs. George D. Bailey, Camas, Wash.; and Mrs. Ralph Torney, Spokane, Wash.; four brothers, Terry G. Byland, Portland; Alvin Byland, Buhl, Ida.; Keith Byland, Tucson, Ariz.; and Jack Byland, with the merchant marines and stationed in Boston, Mass. The remains are being brought to Corvallis and funeral arrangements under direction of the Demoss-Britt Funeral Home will be announced later.
