James S. Hundley

As the shades of evening were gathering a shadow of gloom spread over our community when James S. Hundley entered into eternal rest in the Great Beyond on Wednesday, October 14th, 1931, from his home near Coan. His passing makes a gap which can never be bridged. Mr. Hundley was nearing his 56th year. He had been in failing health for two or three years and always bore his suffering, how ever tense at times, patiently and submissively. He assisted in supervising his business up to a few days before his death, when he suddenly grew worse until death relieved him of his suffering.

He was naturally of a quiet and reserved nature in his sterling character was revealed by his inestimable worth as a neighbor, husband, father and Christian. He was a steward and treasurer of Corinth M. E. Church for 30 years or more of which he was faithful in discharging his duties until he became disabled and gave it up.

Funeral services were conducted in his home by his pastor, Dr. Melvin Trower, assisted by Rev. W. B. Ingram on Friday at 2 o'clock. Dr. Trower read a few verses from John 14, which was one of the favorite passages of scripture of the deceased. Rev. Ingram spoke very touchingly of the merits of Mr. Hundley. Service was closed by the Modern Woodmen of America.

He was laid to rest in the family cemetery under a huge blanket of lovely floral offerings.

Mr. Hundley is survived by his widow and four daughters, Mrs. Annette Rowe, Misses Irma, Almeda and Lelia, two little sons, Ralph and James Robert; one sister, Mrs. Belle Barn-- and two half brothers, L. M. and W. L. Hundley.

The active pallbearers were: Harold Clark, Willard Clark, T. W. Clark, Jr., Lloyd Clark, Alphra Walker andWill Walker.

Honorary pallbearers: John Welch, Chester Headley, Albert Barnes, Rannie Harris, Albert Harris, Randolph Harris, Luther Dawson, Jennings Reynolds, Willie Megill, O. F. Vanlandingham, Grayson Vanlandingham, Garnett Harris, Warner Kent, Jack Bramble, J. B. Davis, Philip Delano and Jas. Dobyns.
